Indian stabbed 15 times in US mall because of faith: report
Washington: An Indian man was stabbed 15 times in a shopping mall near Salt Lake City, Utah, United States, allegedly because of his religious beliefs, according to media reports. Syed Sohailuddin, a worker at the Valley City Mall in West Valley City, Utah, was stabbed Monday afternoon by Peter Michael Larsen, who asked the victim about his religion, Fox 13 News reported. The suspect, Larsen, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and carrying a prohibited dangerous weapon. According to court records, he told police he targeted the employee’s religious beliefs, ABC News reported. Sohairuddin was taken to hospital for surgery. Larson was also struck in the head by those who intervened to stop the alleged attack and was hospitalized with injuries.The Consulate General of India in San Francisco said it was deeply saddened by the incident. “The Consulate remains in close contact with friends and family and stands ready to provide all possible consular assistance.
