Comments Off on The Death of Nolan Wells: 10 Inconsistencies Plaguing the Case – From the Alleged Argument to the Mysterious Woman ‘Katie’

nearly two weeks later nolan wells Investigators are still piecing together his final days after he disappeared during a July 4 outing on Horn Island, Mississippi. Authorities have not determined the cause or manner of death and said they are awaiting autopsy and toxicology results.

Wells family represented by civil rights attorneys Ben Crumphas commissioned an independent autopsy and continues its own parallel investigation.

Throughout the investigation, Wells’ family maintained that there had been multiple inconsistencies since the disappearance of 18-year-old Wells.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department has repeatedly urged patience, saying investigators are examining eyewitness accounts, digital evidence and forensic findings before drawing conclusions. Sheriff John Ledbetter said officials have not found evidence of foul play but have not ruled anything out.

There were reportedly some inconsistencies in the case. Here is some information that raises questions.

10 key inconsistencies in the Nolan Wells case

1. Did Wells stay on Horn Island?

What do friends and authorities say? Several witnesses reported Wells chose to stay on Horn Island and planned to return later with another group, authorities said.

Magistrate Ashlee Cole said her son Warren last saw Wells at about 3pm and left because their boat had mechanical problems. “Nolan decided to stay on the island and later return inland with another group of friends,” Cole said.

Another friend, Tracetin Shepherd, told ABC News Wells met a young woman and wanted to stay a little longer. “They met that day and it was one of those things. He did show that he really liked her that day, but that was the only time they hung out,” Shepherd said.

What did Wells’ parents say? Wells’ parents objected to this, believing it to be risky and unusual behavior by Wells.

“We always told him, if you go with a group, you stay with the group,” his father, Elmore Wonsley, told “Good Morning America.” “If you go with five, you’ll come back with five.”

They see this narrative as evidence of a more important problem. “When they say that, naturally I get annoyed, but it raises the question of, like, I know he wouldn’t do that. I preach that to him every day… You’re kidding me,” Elmore said.

2. Did Wells leave his cell phone behind?

What do friends and authorities say? One of the biggest questions surrounds Wells’ cell phone.

Shepherd said it’s common to leave cellphones on boats because people don’t want their phones exposed to salt water. “All our friends are there. Who are we communicating with?” he told ABC News.

What did Wells’ parents say? His parents disagreed.

Christine Wonsley said her son regularly uses Snapchat and regularly documents his outings with photos and videos. What she found suspicious was that his account showed almost no activity since July 4.

They said they found it odd that Wells’ phone lacked other texts, pictures or videos of him out with friends that might have given us more insight into his activities that day.

Authorities have not publicly explained whether the deleted content, metadata or cloud backups have been restored. A digital forensic examination of Wells’ phone is expected to be conducted by experts from the family and prosecutors

3. Why is the location of the phone different from that of Snapchat?

What did Wells’ parents say? The family reportedly tracked Wells’ phone using a surveillance app with the help of a mainland friend.

The family noticed that Nolan’s Snapchat account showed a location that did not match the location where his phone was found, and showed no activity in the 24 hours before his disappearance.

The Rev. Al Sharpton also questioned why Wells’ friends never proactively told the family they had his cellphone. “They didn’t proactively tell her they had his phone. They didn’t proactively tell her they had the keys,” Sharpton said.

What do friends and authorities say? Authorities have not publicly addressed the discrepancy or explained whether it was due to delayed GPS updates or other technical reasons.

4. What is Wells wearing?

What do friends and authorities say? Another difference involves Welles’s attire.

Police reports indicate he was wearing black shorts when he disappeared.

What did Wells’ parents say? However, Christine Wansley said a young woman who attended the Horn Island party later sent him a photo of him wearing blue shorts.

5. The so-called arguments

What did Wells’ parents say? A widely circulated video from Horn Island appears to capture a violent confrontation.

Initially, Ben Crump suggested that the recording involved Welles.

What do friends and authorities say? This account was later disputed by Shepard, who told Rolling Stone that it was actually him who heard the shouting.

Crump later clarified that investigators continue to receive tips about an altercation that may have involved Wells.

Investigators specifically requested the raw, unedited video from July 4.

6. Who is Katie? Where is she?

What do friends and authorities say? One of the biggest unanswered questions centers on a young woman named Katie.

When Wells’ friends first spoke to Christine on the phone, they told her that Wells was staying on the island with a girl named Katie. “They said he wanted to stay and hang out with this girl named Katie. And, that was the initial conversation, and I was alerted that he was missing.”

What did Wells’ parents say? According to Wells’ mother, she was initially told that her son was last seen with Katie, and that the young woman herself was “missing.”

However, a relative later wrote on Facebook that Katie had never been missing.

Crump highlights another contradiction. Katie allegedly told investigators Wells said he was returning to a friend’s boat, he said. Meanwhile, his friends reportedly claimed Wells told them he was moving in with Katie.

“Which one is it? Someone must be not telling the truth,” Crump said.

7. When did Welles actually die?

What do friends and authorities say? Investigators have not determined the exact time of Wells’ death. After an extensive search, his body was discovered on July 6.

Jackson County Coroner Bruce Lind declined to speculate until he receives autopsy and toxicology results. Therefore, the official cause and manner of death remain unknown

What did Wells’ parents say? Crump said in a social media repost that Wells may have returned home early on July 5, died, and then had his body returned to Horn Island on July 6.

However, other known facts, such as his parents’ claims that they were initially told he was missing and his phone was found, appear to contradict this timeline.

8. Did Wells drown or was there another cause?

What do friends and authorities say? Law enforcement says dangerous rip currents around Horn Island make accidental drownings a reality.

What did Wells’ parents say? The Wells family remains unconvinced.

Christine Wonsley questioned whether anyone would notice if her son was in trouble. “We just want to know what happened and why our children didn’t come home,” she told a news conference.

9. Was Wells drunk?

What do friends and authorities say? Photos from the party show Wells holding an alcoholic drink.

However, Cajun Combine’s Brian Trascher told PEOPLE that his understanding is that Wells’ blood-alcohol level did not reach an intoxicating level.

An official toxicology report has not yet been released. Meanwhile, two investigations are ongoing. On Monday, July 13, Ledbetter told ABC News that his department was still working. Crump will conduct a private investigation, including a second autopsy. Neither team announced autopsy results or an official cause of death.

10. Did Wells stay to “chasing girls”?

What do friends and authorities say? The Cajun Combine was assisting in the search for Wells when he disappeared, and incident commander Josh Gill previously told Nola.com that the teen was last seen “hanging out with a girl.” Jayvon Williams, a friend of Wells who was on Horn Island on July 4, told the Biloxi Sun-Herald that he last saw Wells after 4 p.m. while hanging out with a girl and other friends, adding that both left their cellphones on Wells’ boat on the way to the island.

What did Wells’ family say? Wells’ father, Elmore Wansley, dismissed the possibility. He said of his son: “There was so much at stake for him. He had a plan for his life. He knew what he wanted to do. He knew what he had to do next Monday, which was to get down to business so he could start his future. So, if anyone told me that Nolan decided to stay on the island and chase a girl. No one could make me believe that.”
