Alex Sunny is an American woman who became popular on TikTok for planning to move to Afghanistan for her husband, whom she met on Snapchat.
Alex Sunny, a 26-year-old American truck driver who suddenly became popular on TikTok for her long-distance love story, now wants to move to Afghanistan permanently. She claims she will be relocating this August because her Afghan husband is unable to come to the United States due to the U.S. travel ban. Her claims have not been corroborated, and the account has only recently become popular, raising legitimate concerns about her identity and the veracity of her story.Sunny claims that her father is Jordanian and her mother is from Kentucky, making her a dual citizen of the United States and Jordan. She met her husband on Snapchat in July 2024, and their first face-to-face meeting was in December 2024. They got married but didn’t spend much time together.Following the announcement, the viral TikTok account also began taking questions. “I haven’t seen my husband in almost two years, so I go to where he is because he can’t come to where I am,” she said, adding that she plans to live with him and his family, learn about Afghan history and culture, try local food and respect local customs and traditions.Sunny addressed multiple concerns raised in her video comments. She claimed that her husband’s aunt regularly goes to the gym and clarified her understanding of the country’s social and travel norms. She also highlighted her half-Jordanian background as part of her take on the move. Many social media users called her a Taliban PR “plant,” while many suspected she wasn’t even a real person. As Sunny’s story caused an uproar on social media platforms, with most warning her against moving to Afghanistan, one TikTok user who said she had worked with Afghan advocacy groups said there were four possible reasons Sunny might have moved to Afghanistan. The woman said Sonny must have thought she would be given special status in Afghanistan because she was American. The woman said her husband may be a Taliban official and speculated the videos could be a public relations move by the Taliban. She added that Sunny may have thought she was safe because she was now popular.Others, however, believe that Sunny’s video is just inciting anger and engaging in farming.
