A 28-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of murdering former British politician Ann Widdecombe, as detectives continue to investigate the death of the 78-year-old man at his home in Devon, The Guardian reports.Devon and Cornwall Police said the suspect was arrested at an address in South Yorkshire on Saturday evening. He remains in police custody.The arrest was made with assistance from North East Counter Terrorism Police and South Yorkshire Police. Authorities said there was currently no evidence linking the case to terrorism and Devon and Cornwall Police would continue to lead the investigation.Police believe Widdecombe was attacked at around 12.30pm on Wednesday and say she may have been dead for almost a day before ambulance crews discovered her body at her bungalow in Haytor at around 11.40am on Thursday.The latest arrest comes after a 26-year-old man detained in Newton Abbot on Friday was released without charge and has been excluded from the investigation.Widdecomb’s management team announced her death on Friday. After a preliminary investigation, counterterrorism officials assessed the case and ruled out a politically motivated attack.Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman said detectives were withholding further details of the investigation, including descriptions of potential suspects and CCTV footage, to avoid compromising the investigation or compromising future inquiries.
