Charlie Kirk killing: Tyler Robinson told partner Lance Twiggs he regretted shooting, video played in court
Lance Twiggs played a video of the prosecutor’s interview in court Thursday in which Twiggs said Robinson regretted killing Charlie Kirk. Twiggs said he and Robinson met in 2023 when they became roommates and began dating two to three months later. They share a friend group and are both gamers. They lived together in a townhouse in St. George, Utah.In recounting what happened the day Charlie Kirk was killed, Twiggs said Robinson left their apartment around four or five in the morning. He told Twiggs that he was an electrician and had to travel long distances to his job sites. Twiggs revealed that Tyler Robinson told him a few weeks ago that he wanted to engrave some bullets for a hunting trip and borrowed a tool from Twiggs to do so.After the shooting, Robinson returned to their apartment. He looked nervous and was pacing. “He started crying and said he wished he hadn’t done it.” Robinson told Twiggs he planned to turn himself in to authorities, who released surveillance images as they frantically hunted for the killer.
“Tyler Robinson has never mentioned Charlie Kirk before”
Twiggs said he had never heard Tyler Robinson talk about Charlie Kirk before the shooting. Sometimes Robinson would talk about politics and what he heard on the radio on his way to work.Robinson’s attorneys went to great lengths Wednesday to keep the video from public view. Utah County prosecutors want audio of Twiggs’ interview played, while defense attorney Richard Novak warned that any release in open court would affect Robinson’s right to a fair trial and could taint future juries. The parents of Erica and Charlie Kirk are pleading with a judge to allow the public to obtain more evidence in the case against Taylor Robinson. In a motion unsealed Thursday, attorneys for Mr. Kirk’s parents and his widow, Erica, argued that all of the exhibits presented by prosecutors at this week’s preliminary hearing should be publicly displayed in court. After the video was released, prosecutors released a long string of text messages between Twiggs and Robinson on the night of the shooting. They showed Robinson lurking near the scene of the shooting, hoping to retrieve his rifle and change his clothes from the bushes he had left behind.During that text exchange, Robinson apparently told Twiggs that he could no longer tolerate Charlie Kirk’s hatred and revealed that he planned to carry out the killing within a week or so. During text conversations that day, he repeatedly apologized for getting Twiggs involved in all of this.
