According to the Associated Press report on Sunday, July 5, Police Chief Jessica Tisch said that among the eight victims, a 21-year-old woman was in critical condition, while the others were in stable condition and expected to survive. The children who were shot were aged 6, 7, 12 and 14 years old.

The shooting occurred on the evening of Saturday, July 4, in the courtyard of an apartment building just one block from the famous Coney Island Boardwalk. The location is not far from the site of Nathan’s famous hot dog eating contest held earlier in the holiday season.
Tisch said the family was having a picnic in the yard when a suspect wearing a black mask opened fire. The gunman fled the scene. However, police found a gun.
