President Donald Trump gestures as he concludes his speech during “Salute to America,” an Independence Day event commemorating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.

U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a speech on the National Mall on Saturday to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence, combining patriotic appeals with a partisan message after a severe storm briefly disrupted the celebrations and forced the evacuation of the venue.“The American people must never forget that we are a heroic people throughout history, with a heroic spirit and a heroic purpose on this beautiful planet of ours,” he said.In his speech, Trump described the anniversary as “one of the joyiest and most glorious milestones ever” and paid tribute to U.S. veterans, including World War II service members and one of the first black officers to lead Special Forces operations during the Vietnam War.“We will always be on top,” Trump said. “We will never let our country go down. We will always be the best.”“For 250 years, the United States of America has been the hope, the promise, the light and the glory of nations around the world… With God’s help, we can always do that and better… On our National Mall, we celebrate the victory of liberty over tyranny, liberty over oppression, and the enduring triumph of the American spirit from July 4, 1776, to July 4, 2026… Tonight, our nation is stronger, freer, richer, safer, and prouder than ever before.”Speaking of America’s Founding Fathers, Trump said: “In Philadelphia, our Founding Fathers gathered giants of courage and centuries of wisdom to boldly proclaim these timeless truths. ‘They declared, ‘All men are created equal, endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.'” Signing on the roster of freedom, these 56 patriots risked all risks, stepped onto the stage of destiny, and won an eternal victory.“He added, “We are made of the courage, fire, flesh and blood of the best and bravest people in this world. Tonight, we pledge allegiance to the flag they gave us – and we say, ‘God bless the immortal patriots of 1776, and long live the cause of independence!'”The president has also ventured into partisan territory, promoting the Save America Act, reaffirming his support for the Second Amendment and reiterating his criticism of communism, themes that have become increasingly prominent in political messaging ahead of the November midterm elections.Despite the inclement weather, thousands gathered on the National Mall to commemorate the historic moment.“So, it’s always important to be here. I think everybody gets represented, everybody gets to be here and be able to understand the story like my friend said. It’s always good to pass on that kind of thing and the brotherhood that we have here as Americans. I think that’s a really important factor that we should always spread and try to show other people what we’re about. But yeah, I mean we came here earlier in 100 degree heat. We sweated a lot but we did it and we came back to watch the fireworks,” one attendee told ANI.The speech, scheduled for earlier in the evening, was delayed by about two hours because dangerous weather prompted authorities to clear the National Mall and suspend security inspections. Event organizers later reopened the gates, allowing revelers to return for festivities and fireworks. Before arriving at the venue, Trump said he was determined to go ahead with the event despite the bad weather. “I won’t let a rain stop our 250th anniversary celebration,” he wrote on Truth Social. Later, when he arrived on the National Mall, he posted: “Here I am!!! DJT.”Leesburg, Virginia, resident John Herman also expressed pride in participating in the festivities.“Well, 250 years of great power, good people, a wonderful country. Just love it. I’m a patriot, I enjoy it, I’m grateful to be here. I think every American should get down on their knees and thank God that they were born here, came here and were able to be here,” he said.Across the United States, Americans are celebrating America’s 250th Independence Day with parades, concerts, fireworks and patriotic events. However, severe storms and record-breaking temperatures disrupted festivities in several cities, forcing organizers to postpone, modify or cancel some festivities.
