‘Guns are easy to get’: 7-month-old baby shot in head by 10-year-old boy in Missouri
A 10-year-old boy has been charged with murder after a 7-month-old baby was shot in the head in Missouri, in a case that has shocked states and is believed to be the youngest murder prosecution in the state’s history.The child, who cannot be named because of his age, was taken into custody Friday after police responded to a report of a shooting at a St. Louis home. When police arrived, they found the baby, Kiyomi Parker, shot in the head.Police said officers attempted life-saving measures before taking the baby to hospital, but she later died from her injuries. The St. Louis Police Department confirmed the death in a statement.According to court documents obtained by First Alert 4, witnesses said the boy picked up a gun hidden under a mattress in the bedroom and shot the baby. A 7-year-old child was also inside the home at the time of the shooting.The accused boy told police he knew where the gun was stored and that it was easily accessible to him. He also admitted that he had removed and disposed of it before.The baby’s father, 19-year-old Ca’Marion Pawnell, later told police he had placed the gun where the child was found, court documents show.According to FirstAlert 4, “The alleged shooter told police he knew where the gun was stored, that he had easy access to it and that he had taken the gun out and touched it before.”Bonnell’s relationship to the 10-year-old boy has not yet been determined.The boy has been charged in juvenile court with first-degree murder.Bonnell was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree endangering the welfare of a child resulting in death, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child causing substantial risk. He is being held without bail.
