Three firefighters died in fire wildfire this weekend Utah–colorado boundary. The U.S. Forest Service confirmed the situation on Monday. The U.S. Department of the Interior said in a statement that firefighters were involved in a “burnout,” in which firefighters become trapped in equipment and take refuge in the equipment’s protective enclosures.

in a statement on MondayThe U.S. Interior Department said the firefighters were: Emily Buck, 38, of Clinton Township, Michigan; Nick Hutcherson, 27, of Glendale, Arizona; and Sydney Watson, 26, of Warrior, Alabama.
Multiple fires broke out along the Utah-Colorado border, burning approximately 28,000 acres. It originated from the Snyder Fire, merged with the Jones Fire, and then merged with the Knowles and Gore Fires.
The department said firefighters assigned to the Rifle Helitack crew were initially responsible for fighting the Knolls Fire. As of now, the fire has not been brought under control.
“We mourn the loss of three firefighters who answered the call to protect others and made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their fellow man,” U.S. Interior Department Wildland Fire Service Chief Brian Fennessy said in a statement.

“Our hearts go out to their families, loved ones, friends and crew members as they face unimaginable loss,” the statement continued. “These firefighters exemplify the courage, professionalism and selflessness of wildland firefighting.”
“This is an extremely difficult time for the entire wildland fire community,” Forest Service Deputy Chief Sarah Fisher said in a statement.
“Our thoughts are with their families during this unimaginable time. We recognize the profound impact this loss has had on them and are deeply grateful for their loved ones’ dedication to our organization. We will honor their memory with compassion and support as their selfless service and commitment create an enduring legacy.”

Utah-Colorado border fire update
Several fires are burning along the Utah-Colorado border and thousands of acres are being evacuated. Numerous evacuation orders now extend into Colorado and Utah.
In Colorado, the Snyder Fire has burned more than 28,000 acres and the North McLeod Fire has burned more than 109 acres. The Willow Fire near Aspen currently covers more than 1,066 acres, while the Aspen Acres Fire currently covers about 362 acres.
In Utah, the Babylon Fire is burning near Horse Mountain in San Juan County, affecting more than 38,300 acres. More fires are burning eastward, posing a serious threat to structures.
