‘What a loser’: Biden launches swipe at Trump, slams ‘blatant corruption’ in fiery Maryland speech
Former US President Joe Biden launched one of his strongest attacks yet on President Donald Trump, calling him a “loser” while speaking at a Democratic Party Gala in Maryland on Saturday.

Biden accuses the Trump administration of corruption, incompetence and damage to the United States’ global standing, as Democrats step up their campaign ahead of midterm elections in November 2026.
Biden’s remarks at the dinner followed a statement promoting grassroots political engagement. “I’ve always believed that democracy is not a spectator sport,” he said, praising volunteers organizing events, making phone calls and knocking on doors throughout the community.

“What a loser.”
During his keynote address at the “Live! Casino Hotel” in Hanover, Maryland, Biden attacked several of Trump’s initiatives in Washington, such as renovating the Lincoln Memorial’s reflecting pool, plans to build the Arc de Triomphe, and demolishing the East Wing of the White House to remodel a ballroom.
Biden also accused the administration of “shameless, blatant corruption” on an unprecedented scale.
Biden continued, “The Reflecting Pool project in particular, where the federal government awarded a $1.7 million no-bid filtration system contract to a Trump donor who is a neighbor of the president’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, reflects something far worse than the narcissism and incompetence at the heart of this administration.”
Biden said the moves reflected the administration’s misguided goals. He called the moves a disgrace and said, “This is not just a vanity project for him.”
He also noted that after Trump lost his first term to Biden, the administration has sought to compensate individuals who were convicted for their roles in the violence at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 and subsequently pardoned by the president.
He added, “Wow! What a loser.”

Biden attacks Trump’s domestic and foreign policies
Biden also questioned Trump’s handling of foreign affairs. He accused the president of weakening U.S. alliances and diminishing the country’s international influence.
“He has undermined our standing in the world more than any president in history,” Biden said.
The former president criticized Trump’s relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and believed the administration was undermining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Biden claimed the alliance suffered due to Trump’s handling of the conflicts in Russia and Ukraine and the war the United States and Israel launched in Iran in late February.
