Indian-American man shoots parents, grandmother to death in Texas; arrested after dramatic chase
Gaurav Chopra, a 19-year-old Indian-American man, was arrested by local police in Alton, Texas, after he allegedly killed his parents and grandmother.
Chopra was arrested in murder He was charged after he allegedly shot a family member at their Alton home on Tuesday, June 16, local news outlet KRGC 5 reported. His brother, who was also wounded in the shooting but survived, called police to tell them Chopra had shot the family and fled the scene.
Manhunt after shooting
Police pursued Chopra’s vehicle, but the pursuit ended in a crash in which his car hit two people, who were also taken to the hospital.
The three people killed in the shooting were identified as Chopra’s father Sweeta Ram (56), mother Kamlesh Rani (46) and grandmother Minder Kaur (76).
Chopra was formally charged on June 18 with multiple murders and attempted murder. Bond was not convicted of the charges. He also faces charges of evading arrest and his bail is set at $250,000, the report said.
What do the police think of the motive for the killing?
Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra said all three victims died from gunshot wounds to the head.

Police said they had not received any previous complaints from the Chopras. Chopra is a student at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. The university said it is cooperating with investigators but could not provide further details about the case.
Authorities have not yet revealed a motive for the killing. Asked whether Chopra was cooperating with investigators, Guerra said the accusations made by the suspect were “inaccurate.”
