New Delhi: Member of Parliament Karti Chidambaram Denies claims on social media about his links to his father, a former federal minister P Chidambarama scene from the recently released film Dhurandhar, called the allegations a mix of “fact, fiction and WhatsApp forwards”.In an interview to ANI, the Sivaganga MP talked about his “cameo” in Aditya Dal’s film, saying that he has not watched the film but was told that a character similar to him appears in it. “No, I haven’t seen it yet, but I’m told there’s a cameo in there. It’s a three-hour movie, so maybe I’ll watch it during the flight,” he said.Chidambaram joked that the filmmakers should consult him to finalize the actor to play him on screen. When asked who he would like to play him on screen, he replied, “Maybe Pierce Brosnan,” and suggested Michael Caine or Sean Connery as possible choices to play his father.
Karti Chidambaram was responding to a scene in the film in which an Indian minister and his son hand over currency printing templates to a Pakistani intelligence agent after striking a deal in London. Some social media posts claimed that the scene reflected real events when Chidambaram was a federal minister, but the allegations have not been proven.Karti Chidambaram categorically denied the claims, saying that if such an incident had indeed taken place, there would have been an official trace. “If people really believe this happened, shouldn’t the Indian government have some records?” he asked.He criticizes the growing inability to distinguish between fact and fiction in an age of viral information. “Thanks to WhatsApp, everything is integrated. With artificial intelligence, it will only get worse,” he said.
