Indian man arrested for stealing $41,555 worth of designer clothes from Florida store, released on bail after pleading guilty
Dhir Patel, 22, was arrested for an elaborate theft of tens of thousands of dollars worth of designer clothing in the Wynwood neighborhood of Miami, Florida. From March 30 to last Monday, he did not run away after stealing clothes, but came back again and again to continue stealing. Investigators with the Miami Police Department said Dil Patel would go to the store “to sell items” in exchange for money. At the same time, he also stole some clothes and hid them, as was tracked by surveillance cameras after the store owner discovered some very expensive items were missing.Investigators said he stole about $41,550 worth of designer goods, but the store owner later estimated the amount could be much more.Store owner Louis Negrich later told Local 10 News, “We originally started at $41,000 and calculated that it’s now about $55 to $60,000.” He added that Patel also purchased some items from the high-end store, which is why his move didn’t initially raise alarm. An arrest report from the police department stated that Patel, of Boynton Beach, “would walk around the store selecting items” during his visits, and detectives said “CCTV footage reportedly showed the suspect concealing clothing items in a bag he was carrying.”Police department officials said they arrested Patel on a grand larceny charge Saturday after he returned to the store to sell more items. Authorities said he pleaded guilty, but that confession was redacted from the publicly released report. “Just don’t steal,” Negrich said. “It’s that simple. It’s just that everything comes back to bite you.”Court records show Patel posted $5,000 bail and was released.
