Weeks after opening a savings account at Sharjah Islamic Bank, an Indian expatriate living in Abu Dhabi has won the jackpot of Dh2 million in the bank’s Millionaire event. The winner was 34-year-old Shajeer Venga, who opened an account through the SIB digital application and was selected in a draw held at the SIB head office. He won within weeks of joining the program, an outcome he said he didn’t expect despite following the event for years.Speaking to Khaleej Times, Venga said he had always wanted to be one of the event’s winners after learning about previous winners. He described the Dh2 million payout as a life-changing sum that would help him invest in his future and reunite his family in the UAE.“The Dh2 million prize will change his life,” Venga said, adding that the money would support his plan to bring his family from India to live with him. He also praised the program for turning long-standing aspirations into reality.Recent drawings have produced several other winners. Emirati customer Moza Butti received a BMW XM, while 40 other participants also received cash prizes.Nabil Abou Alwan, head of retail banking at Sharjah Islamic Bank, said the initiative aims to reward customers while encouraging a savings culture. He said the program continues to provide clients with opportunities to pursue personal and financial goals.
