Long Beach fire report sparks fear among California residents: ‘Smoke-filled’
People who appeared to be Long Beach residents claimed something was burning downtown on Friday, but there were no confirmed reports of a fire. “Why is the city center on fire??” a person ask on the Long Beach subreddit.

They said the alleged fire appeared to have occurred somewhere near Third and Atlantic avenues. “What does that smell like,” the person further posted.
At this time, the Long Beach Fire Department has not confirmed whether a fire occurred in the area. The last post on their official page is about readiness.
“Today, LBFD’s Urban Search and Rescue Team tested their deployment capabilities during a Mobilization Exercise (MOBEX). From earthquakes and flooding to building collapses, these highly trained firefighters are ready to respond when their communities need help most,” the Long Beach Fire Department said releaseand attach a video.

One person said there was a lot of smoke. “Smoky too,” they said in the comments section of the Reddit post. Another user chimed in: “I don’t know but I walked home from my room and it smelled like burning plastic.”
The smell seemed to have traveled great distances, with one person commenting: “Damn. I can smell it from a few blocks north.” Another agreed, noting they were a long way from Third and Atlantic. “Well I can smell smoke now just by opening my window and it’s not even that close to 3rd and Atlantic avenues,” one person said.
Others claimed they could see smoke. “Can smell and see smoke a few blocks north of the Atlantic Ocean,” one Reddit user wrote.
