Vance made the disclosure in a passage in his upcoming book, acquired by The Wall Street Journal, in which he describes Kirk, 31, as his “best friend” in the political arena.

“As my wife held Charlie Kirk’s widow on her first day of grief, Erica sobbed and told Usha that she was sorry she only had two children. Charlie,” Vance wrote.

“For years I had been asking Usha to have another child, and for years she had told me she was over it, especially now that public service had thrust us into the national spotlight. But things changed for Usha, and shortly after we buried my friend, she became pregnant with our fourth child, a boy.”

Kirk was shot and killed TP America September events. The Vance family appears to be among those most affected by Kirk’s death.

Vance wrote of Kirk’s death, “We have lost one life and gained another.”

“I don’t know why God would do something like this,” he mentioned, adding, “But I’m grateful to Him and we will soon have another source of joy in our lives.”

In an October 2025 interview with Fox News, Erica expressed her admiration for JD and Usha and highlighted their support during the difficult time following Charlie’s death.

“He and Usha, they were the most incredible people. Unbelievable. Such genuine love,” she said. “I mean, everything they did for us was so human. They were just, they were there for us. They were always there for us.”

In October 2025, Erica and JD embraced each other at a Turning Point USA event at the University of Mississippi, and their relationship sparked speculation about the politician and his wife’s marital difficulties. JD’s comments expressing hope that Usha would convert from Hinduism to Catholicism fueled rumors of marital discord.
