A senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has claimed that Tehran has the legal right to regulate the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategic oil shipping routes, as nuclear talks between Iran and the United States enter a critical stage.Mohsen Rezaei, the former commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said on Sunday that Iran’s control of the strait would “ensure national security” and end what he called “50 years of insecurity in the Gulf region,” Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported.Rezaei also said that Tehran was conducting simultaneous military preparations and diplomatic efforts amid ongoing tensions.“Our fighters pulled the trigger today and our negotiators are working hard to secure the rights of the Iranian people,” he said. “The war is being managed on two fronts.”The remarks come as U.S.-Iran negotiations appear to be approaching a critical stage.
