The council confirmed the appointment at a mayoral appointment ceremony at Fairway Hall, Boreham Wood, on 13 May.
Tushar Kumar, who studied political science at King’s College London and previously served as deputy mayor, officially took over as deputy mayor this year. He is also involved in local civic and community activities in Boreham Wood.
Kumar described the appointment as an “incredible honour” and said he was grateful for the support he has received throughout his political career.
“The journey from studying politics at King’s College London to now serving as mayor of a town I love has been truly surreal,” Kumar said.
Kumar also thanked outgoing Mayor Dan Ozaro for his guidance and support during his tenure as deputy mayor.
He added: “A special thank you to outgoing Mayor Councilor Dan Ozarow for his dedicated service to our town over the past year and for all the guidance and support he has given me as Deputy Mayor.”
Linda Smith has been appointed deputy mayor for the upcoming municipal year.
Kumar said he wanted to focus on community engagement, support local charities and encourage more young people to get involved in public service.
“As mayor, I want to focus on being involved in the community, supporting local organizations and charities, and inspiring more young people to get involved in public service and community life,” he said.
