Local media reported that rescue teams were operating along the coastline and several emergency vehicles, RNLI lifeboats and a coastguard helicopter were deployed to the area. Coastguard units from Shoreham, Newhaven, Littlehampton and Birling Gap also joined the response.

Sussex Police Chief Superintendent Adam Hayes described the incident as a “tragic incident” and said investigators were working quickly to identify the women and determine exactly what happened, Reuters reported.“This is a tragic incident and we are conducting a rapid investigation to identify the three women and understand exactly what happened,” Hayes said in a statement.He also asked the public to avoid the area while emergency services continued to work at the scene.Authorities have not revealed the ages or identities of the women, and the circumstances leading to their deaths remain unclear. Police said further updates will be released as the investigation progresses.
