A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a car knocked down five men in the Nottinghamshire town of Arnold at around 1.10am on Saturday. One of the victims is in critical condition in hospital, while the other four suffered minor injuries in the incident downtown, according to a police statement.According to Guardian sources, the pair got into an argument in Arnold town center before the incident, leading to a red Vauxhall Astra approaching them. In addition, a man was subsequently arrested by the police and is still under further investigation.According to Nottinghamshire Police, the driver left the crime scene on foot before abandoning the vehicle. Early Saturday morning, police appeared to have successfully arrested a suspect in connection with the case. Additionally, counterterrorism officials appear not to be involved in the investigation because the threats were limited to individuals.Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, who is leading the investigation, said police had updated the family of the seriously injured man. A team of experts is currently working with the victim’s family, while hospital doctors treat the victim.Burrow told the community that detectives are currently gathering evidence related to the case and not to engage in any form of speculation. She confirmed an investigation was ongoing and police were keeping a very open mind about the circumstances leading up to the crime.Police forces carried out a number of activities at the accident scene over the weekend. They searched the city center for any evidence, interviewed witnesses and analyzed video footage from around the scene. Residents in the town reported an increase in the number of emergency services in some areas of Arnold late at night.The police team is appealing for any witnesses to the collision and the events preceding this incident to come forward. Investigators are specifically looking for any evidence such as CCTV, dash cam, doorbell and smartphone footage.Members of the public are advised to share any useful information directly with Nottinghamshire Police, or anonymously with Crimestoppers, as it may be useful to investigators trying to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the crash.Residents of Arnold woke up on Saturday to news of a major police investigation in the busy Nottinghamshire town.
