Video of SWAT vehicles being evacuated circulated online. Independent journalist Nick Sortor shared a video and wrote: “The only time they were gone in 11 days was when people related to the case were detained.”
Notably, the last time someone was reported to have been detained in connection with the Guthrie kidnapping, they were later released. The exact reason why SWAT got involved is unclear, but people online have come up with a range of theories.
Why did the special police stationed in Marana?
A user on X claimed there was a Walmart in Marana and wanted to know if the suspect could have gotten the backpack from there. After the FBI released video of a masked suspect at Guthrie’s home, they narrowed it down and identified the backpack.
Another claimed police had probed a suspect’s phone at the location. Others noted that Marana’s action came shortly after authorities announced they had found DNA unrelated to Guthrie and his family at their residence near Tucson, Arizona, and sent it for testing.
A source familiar with the matter noted the distance between the locations, saying: “The bomb squad active in Marana in Swat, Pima County, is approximately 23 miles from missing Nancy Guthrie’s home in the Catalina Foothills near Tucson, Arizona. DNA from the home did not match her or close contacts and may belong to a male suspect.”
Someone else asked: “There’s clearly something going on right now. Will we see a major breakthrough in the case?”.
