Guwahati: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Tuesday attributed Congress’s rout to its attempts to politicize the singer Zubin GargAfter the death of state president Gaurav Gogoi, he tasted a “miserable defeat” for dragging his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma into the passport controversy.“No political party should include Bhupen Hazarika or Zubeen Garg in their poll manifesto… Congress is seeking votes in Zubeen’s name as they have no support. This is a cheap political tactic,” he said.
For Gaurav’s failure on debut at home at Jorhat, he put the blame on Keira, who in a press conference accused Riniki of holding multiple passports and stashing assets in foreign countries. “Normally, the people of Assam don’t like people from outside talking about their daughters. If I indulge in personal attacks on Mamata, the people of Bengal won’t like me either.”
