David Kendall, one of the key figures behind the hit ’90s tv showThe Boy Meets World star has passed away, the show’s actor announced on Saturday, May 2. It sparked an outpouring of grief from fans and other cast members on the show. He is 68 years old.

Actors Will Friedel (Eric Matt), Ryder Strong (Shawn Hunter) and Danielle Fisher (Topanga Lawrence) host a podcast based on the show Pod Meets World. May 2, Instagram David Kendall, who “played a vital role” behind Boy Meets World, has died, the show’s showrunners have shared an update.
“To say David Kendall played a major role in the creation of Boy Meets World would be an understatement,” read the headline surrounding Kendall’s death. “He directed, wrote and executive produced our shows and helped shape some of television’s most memorable sitcoms, from ‘Growing Pains’ to ‘Hannah Montana.'”
“We are devastated by the loss of such an important person in our lives, both professionally and personally,” it continued.
“We have all stayed in touch with David over the past 30 years and it was an honor to share his incredible personality with the Pod Meets World audience.
The cause of death has not been released.
Who is David Kendall?
David Kendall was a key figure in the production of Boy Meets World. He played a key role in the show’s conception and has served as writer, director and producer on various episodes. Boy Meets World premiered on September 24, 1993 on ABC. The show ran for five seasons until it aired on May 5, 2000.

He wrote and directed several memorable works drama seriesincluding installments that deepen Sean Hunter’s storyline as well as major holiday- and family-focused episodes. On IMDB, he is credited as an executive producer for much of the show, directing the show’s overall direction and character development alongside creator Michael Jacobs.
Fans and show members mourn death
Many people involved with the show, as well as fans of the show, have expressed their condolences at the passing of David Kendall.
“When David Kendall joined our show creator and EP Michael Jacobs as co-showrunner for seasons two and three, the #Boy #BoyMeetsWorld writers’ room and stage immediately became a safer, more joyful place to collaborate, laugh, debate, challenge, grow and create,” said one of the show’s writers.
He added: “We are all better off having David Kendall in this world. Love Wendy and your sweet family. Travel safe, DK.”
“RIP David Kendall,” one fan page wrote.
Boy Meets World is a hit series on ABC TGIF, airing for seven seasons and 158 episodes.
