NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday expressed deep condolences over the devastating fire that broke out in a residential building in the Shah Deraveeke Vihar area of ​​the national capital in which nine people lost their lives. In X’s post, the Chief Minister of Delhi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the incident. “The fire incident in a building in Vivek Vihar is extremely tragic. I am deeply saddened by the incident that claimed the lives of nine people. The injured in the incident are undergoing treatment at the nearest hospital and I pray for their speedy recovery. My condolences to the affected families in this hour of grief.” I pray to God to give them strength to get through this difficult time,” the Delhi Chief Minister wrote. Nine people were killed and at least one injured in a fire that broke out in a four-storey residential building in Vivek Vihar in the early hours of Sunday, according to Delhi Police. Five members of a family living on the second floor were killed, police said. The deceased were identified as Arvind (60 years old), his wife Anita Jain (58 years old), son Nishant Jain (35 years old), daughter-in-law Anchal Jain (33 years old) and one and a half year old grandson Master Akash Jain. Shikha Jain (45) died in the incident on the first floor. Another family living on the third floor also lost their lives in the tragic incident. The deceased include Nitin Jain (about 50 years old), his wife Shailey Jain (about 48 years old) and son Samyak Jain (about 25 years old). Officials said one of the injured, Naveen Jain (48), was receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, Sanjay Goyal, a BJP MP from Shahdara, also expressed his condolences over the incident. He said the fire, suspected to be caused by a short circuit, broke out in a building located in Block B of Vivek Vihar and quickly spread to all four floors, resulting in casualties. Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the fire, while rescue efforts are ongoing.
