New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved anticipatory bail in the criminal complaint filed against Congress Neta Pawan Khera by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife alleging that she possesses multiple passports and undisclosed offshore properties.A bench of Justices JK Maheshwari and AS Chandurkar concluded the hearing on the basis of the plea of Khera, who had challenged the Gauhati HC’s decision dismissing his pre-arrest bail application.Senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi, seeking bail, told the judge that the chief minister had been making some objectionable remarks against Congress workers, which suggested that he would be arrested even if no custodial interrogation was required in the case.Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Assam government, opposed the plea and said Kaira produced a forged and altered passport copy of the chief minister’s wife. He points out that Keira has been on the lam and that all the accusations against her are false.
