The channel said in a statement, “HGTV recently became aware of offensive racial comments that were made during the filming of ‘Rehab Addict.’ Such language is not only hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners and employees, but is inconsistent with HGTV’s values,” according to The Independent. “As a result, we have removed the episode from all HGTV platforms. We remain committed to fostering a culture of respect and inclusion across our content and workplace,” the statement continued.
After the incident, Curtis also issued an apology. The message from her team was: “Regardless of context, she takes full responsibility for the impact. What happened was an apparent slip of the tongue — an incorrect version of a famous expression she said during 17 hours of physical labor and little sleep. Even so, she understands that intention does not undo the impact, and she is truly sorry,” according to Yahoo News.
