West Bengal Assembly elections: Election Commission to hold key readiness review in Kolkata ahead of second phase of polls
With just days left for the second phase of the April 29 West Bengal assembly elections, authorities will convene a high-level coordination meeting in Kolkata on Sunday to assess poll preparations in major districts.The meeting will be held at the Dhana Dhanya Auditorium and will bring together senior police officials, election authorities and central force commanders overseeing Kolkata North, Kolkata Dakshin and South 24 Parganas.“The meeting has been convened to assess the overall preparedness of the Kolkata constituency and ensure smooth coordination among all agencies involved in the polling process,” the official told PTI.Officials said discussions will focus on aspects such as troop deployment, vulnerability mapping, coordination between civil and police administration and the eventual readiness of polling personnel. Participants will include Kolkata Police Commissioner, District Election Officer, election committee Observers, armed police commanders and returning officers.The review has become increasingly important after voter turnout in 152 wards across 16 constituencies in the first phase on April 23 exceeded 93 per cent. Similar meetings were held across the state to ensure smooth, free and fair voting in the two-phase elections.
