New Delhi: Opposition parties are considering issuing another notification in Parliament to remove the Chief Election Commissioner Janesh Kumar Their request was rejected by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and the Chairman of the Lok Sabha a few days ago.Sources said the major parties in the Indian bloc are discussing the matter and working on a possible draft. The decision to reopen the issue was based on reasonable orders issued by the Speakers of both the Houses, Om Birla and CP Radhakrishnan, as to why the notification was rejected. It was thought that the notification could be submitted again to correct the deficiencies mentioned by the two Chairmen. One of the reasons for the rejection was allegedly the lack of a specific misdemeanor case.Sources said the talks are at an early stage and will take some time to mature. In the wake of the controversy surrounding the SIR in West Bengal, where elections are coming up, similar rows have broken out in other states and the move to put pressure on CEC Kumar appears to be an attempt to make a political statement. While there is consensus among opposition parties on the issue, the Trinamool Congress party has been its prime mover. While previous notifications have been filed in the Lok Sabha and the House of Federation, the opposition parties are still deciding whether to follow the same pattern or choose a House to file a fresh petition. Discussions about re-petitioning the Central Election Commission come after the Modi government failed on the Constitution Amendment Bill on delimitation and quota for women.
