According to the meteorological department, temperatures are likely to drop further in these areas, with “minimum temperatures reaching into the 20s”.
What residents should do
Officials warned that freezing conditions could damage crops, kill sensitive plants and affect unprotected pipelines. Residents are advised to cover or bring plants indoors when possible.
With multiple areas on alert and conditions likely to worsen, the National Weather Service said additional advisories or upgrades may follow.
