Iran's envoy says the United States has gone back on its word on the agreed 10-point plan, leading to a deadlock in the peace talks
Abdul Majeed Hakim Diwiwan

LUCKNOW: Iran’s Supreme Leader’s Special Representative to India Abdul Majeed Hakim Elahi on Saturday said recent efforts to promote peace talks between Iran and the United States have failed as Washington allegedly deviated from the mutually accepted framework.Speaking at Lucknow’s Chaudhry Charan Singh International Airport on his way to Delhi, Elahi said Iran had earlier proposed a ten-point plan as a basis for negotiations with the United States. According to him, the proposal was initially accepted by the United States.“We proposed a ten-point plan to the United States as a basis for negotiations and they accepted it. They should negotiate based on this plan,” Elahi said. However, he claimed that when negotiations began, the United States changed its position. “When they came to Pakistan and started negotiations, they started making other demands and refused to negotiate based on the ten-point plan. Therefore, the negotiations failed,” he added.Elahi further said that Iran has since received another proposal from the United States, indicating that dialogue may be resumed in the future. “Maybe they will negotiate later, but so far, those negotiations have not yielded any results,” he said. The Iranian envoy visited Sultanpur district in Uttar Pradesh earlier in the day and then left for Lucknow.
