New Delhi: Captain of Gujarat Titans Shubman Gill He smiled with satisfaction after leading his team to a thrilling five-match victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday. Gill was pleased with the result but admitted his team would have preferred to finish the chase earlier. The victory marked GT’s third consecutive win this season after victories over Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Supergiants. With six points from five games, the Titans have climbed to fourth in the table. In contrast, KKR’s struggles continue as they are at the bottom of the table without a win with just 1 point.“Honestly, I don’t think it matters. The only thing that matters is winning and obviously, playing in the final and winning the trophy is going to be something I’m looking forward to. (Having gone out, did you think it was going to be longer than you wanted?) Yeah, ideally we would have liked to have done at least one round, a couple of overs, and I’m very disappointed with the way I went out. I wanted to last until the end and get it done. Hopefully, the next chance I get, I’ll be able to do that,” Gill said.“(On bowling Siraj and Rabada 3) Honestly, the way they both bowled, it looked like they could get a wicket on every ball and at the end give them both an extra ball and I could see the ball was biting a little bit so that was a decision and I asked them if they were ready to bowl one more because it was a bit hot so it wasn’t easy to bowl three on the trot,” Gill added.Gill led the way with 86 off 50 balls, hitting 8 fours and 4 sixes, while GT chased down 181 in 19.4 overs.“(On his batting) Yeah, definitely. I think fitness is one thing that I worked on a few months before this. Fitness is one thing I work on. Other than that, just working on the mental side of the game, trying to get better, not just technically but tactically. (How do you get better technically and mentally?) It’s all about, trying to stay in the moment and not trying to think too far ahead or look back at past mistakes. Obviously, you want to learn from them, but you don’t want to become obsessed with them. It’s a conscious decision, every time you go to bat or go to the pitch, your mind takes you to all kinds of places, but it’s important to stay present,” he said.
