Australian Indian politician Charishma Kaliyanda slams Liverpool mayor for doxxing her address: 'Totally unacceptable'

An Indian-origin Labor MP has accused the mayor of Liverpool of doxxing her as police were called to tense clashes at a polling station during the heated by-election campaign.Charishma Kaliyanda said her safety was threatened after her home address was shared on social media in a post related to a local political dispute.“I am aware that the mayor made a social media post last night that made my home address public,” Kaliyanda said, according to Australia Today.“It is completely unacceptable for a political opponent to release my home address. This is not just a political tactic but also doxxing and potentially criminal conduct.”She warned the incident had serious implications beyond politics: “This puts my safety and the safety of those around me at serious risk…No one should feel unsafe in their own home because they work in public service.”According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun retweeted the post, which was subsequently retweeted by many people, including Liberal MP and Southern District candidate Richard Ammoun.Manoun later deleted the original video and uploaded a modified version that removed sensitive details. In response to the backlash, he said: “I’m sorry for releasing a public document.”The row comes as campaigning intensifies ahead of a by-election for Liverpool City Council. Police were called after tensions spread at a pre-poll station at Casula Community Center and a verbal altercation broke out between candidates.Independent candidate Jamal Daoud said the dispute escalated after he was questioned about allegations related to parliamentary affairs. Amon has denied wrongdoing and said he is addressing misinformation.Kalyanda condemned the act and said: “This behavior crosses a clear line. This is dangerous, unacceptable and unworthy of public office. “NSW Police attended the scene after being contacted by an election worker, but later described the incident as a civil matter and took no further action.Tens of thousands of residents are expected to vote in the by-election, which was triggered by the resignation of Deputy Mayor Betty Green earlier this year.
