Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor, which will cut travel time between the two cities by nearly half.The Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor is 213 kilometers long, six-lane, access controlled and costing over Rs 12,000 crore.The corridor, which cuts through Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, will reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun to around two and a half hours from over six hours currently, according to an official statement.The Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor will play a key role in strengthening regional economic growth by enhancing connectivity between major tourism and economic hubs and opening new avenues for trade and development across the region.“This project reflects the Prime Minister’s vision to develop next-generation infrastructure, combining high-speed connectivity with environmental sustainability and improved quality of life for citizens,” the statement said.The implementation of the project also involves the construction of 10 flyovers, three railway overbridges (ROBs), four major bridges and 12 roadside facilities to enable seamless high-speed connectivity.The corridor is equipped with an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) to provide commuters with a safer and more efficient travel experience.Taking into account the ecological sensitivity, rich biodiversity and wildlife of the area, the corridor has been designed with several features aimed at significantly reducing human-wildlife conflicts.To ensure the free movement of wildlife, the project incorporates several dedicated wildlife protection features. These include a 12-kilometre elevated wildlife corridor, one of the longest in Asia.The corridor also includes eight animal passages, two elephant underpasses each 200 meters long, and a 370-meter-long tunnel near the Maa Daat Kali Temple.Prime Minister Modi Floral tributes were also paid to Dr. BR Ambedkar on the occasion.Earlier, Modi inspected the wildlife corridor on the elevated section of the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor in Saharanpur.He also held a roadshow in Saharanpur, waving to people waiting in line.Modi also offered prayers at the Madatkali Temple near Dehradun.A large number of people also gathered in Dehradun and waved to the Prime Minister as his motorcade passed through the streets of Dehradun.
