Elbridge Colby, the U.S. undersecretary of defense for policy, and other officials met with Cardinal Christophe Pierre after the pope’s “State of the World” speech, the Free Press and Letters from Leo reported. In his speech, the pope criticized “diplomacy based on force,” “imperialist occupation” and the pursuit of global dominance.

The message allegedly delivered to religious leaders’ envoys during the meeting was: “The United States has the military power to do whatever it wants in the world. The Catholic Church would be better off on its side.” The incident reportedly led to the cancellation of the American-born pope’s plans to visit the United States during the 250th anniversary celebrations.

Although this report has not yet been confirmed by the Securities and Futures Commission Holy See and the Trump administration, Owens expressed her thoughts on the matter.

What Candace Owens had to say on Vatican-Pentagon spat

Owens took the report with a grain of salt, starting by saying “assuming it’s true…” The conservative podcaster urged people to seek to learn the real names of individuals involved in the Trump administration.

Owens added: “We need to know exactly who in the White House threatened the Vatican envoy. The true names of those involved should be known to the public.”

Reports of an alleged dispute between the Trump administration and the Vatican also come as the pope has publicly criticized the war in Iran. The United States under Trump joined Israel in launching an attack on Iran, and Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was overthrown. This sparked a conflict in the Middle East that was suspended until yesterday with Trump’s announcement that Iran had agreed to a ceasefire.

Pope Leo XIV was an outspoken critic of the conflict. “As we all know, today the entire people of Iran are facing this threat, and it is truly unacceptable,” he said. Trump’s remarks followed a post on The Truth Society about the demise of “an entire civilization.”

According to the Associated Press, he further said: “We are facing a worldwide economic crisis, an energy crisis, and the situation in the Middle East is extremely unstable, which will only arouse more hatred around the world.”

“Come back to the negotiating table, let us talk, let us find solutions in a peaceful way, and let us remember especially the innocent children, the elderly, the sick and the many who have been or will become victims of this ongoing war,” the pope said of his message to leaders.
