New Delhi: Bangladesh government on Tuesday appointed former cricketer Tamim Iqbal Served as Chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and dissolved the current Board of Directors of the country’s cricket body.Current BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul has been removed from his post by the country’s National Sports Council (NSC), which has set up an ad hoc committee to manage day-to-day affairs until fresh elections are held.This development comes after BCB and BCCI calls for the restoration of bilateral relations.Tamim, 37, the youngest chairman in the BCB, will head an 11-member ad hoc committee that includes former Bangladesh captain Minhajul Abedin and former cricketer and TV commentator Athar Ali Khan.According to news agency PTI, the main reason for Bulbul’s removal was the disastrous defeat during the T20 World Cup where former interim government advisor Asif Nazrul did not allow the national team to visit India for the global event.Nazrul’s stance was to move Bangladesh’s matches from Kolkata and Mumbai to Sri Lanka in protest against Mustafizur Rahaman’s withdrawal from the Indian Premier League.Throughout the incident, Bulbul was just a bystander. Six BCB directors have resigned because of him in the past few days.Former Bangladesh captain and the country’s greatest opener Tamim Iqbal has been appointed as chairman of the 11-member ad hoc committee tasked with holding cricket board elections within the next 90 days (three months).NSC director Aminul Ehsan said the decision to dissolve the current BCB board and set up an ad hoc committee has been informed to the International Cricket Council (ICC).While the ICC charter does not allow government or outside interference in board matters, the global body is unlikely to ban the Bangladesh board as the National Security Council has announced a timetable for holding elections.The ad hoc committee consists of 11 members, including Tamim Iqbal (President), Athar Ali Khan, Rashna Imam, Mirza Yasir Abbas, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Minhazul Abedin Nannu, Ishrafil Khusroo, Tanzim Choudhury, Salman Ispahani, Rafiqul Islam and Fahim Sinha.
