She added: “I will solve problems, implement promises, reduce inequities, and invest in making Washington, D.C., work for everyone because people deserve a mayor who keeps his promises.”

Washington, D.C., is largely run by Democrats and has not had a Republican mayor since mayoral elections began in 1975.

Rini Sampath slams D.C. government’s failures

Sampass stressed that she is not a politician and “I owe nothing to any special interest group. It’s time for an outsider to work tirelessly to fix our basic city services. That’s why I’m running to be your new mayor, and I hope we can work together to create a better Washington.”

Pointing out the failures of the SAR government, the shortcomings of the current leadership were particularly evident during the snowstorm in early February, when residents were unable to go out, disabled people were trapped, and employees suffered financial losses because the city was unable to provide basic services.

When is the primary election for mayor of Washington, D.C.?

The primary election is scheduled for June 16, and the general election is scheduled for November 3.
