“The Aam Aadmi Party has raised three charges and said that because of this, Raghav Chadha should not be allowed to speak in Parliament. I would like to respond to these three charges,” he said.“The first allegation is that when the opposition walked out of Parliament, I remained in my seat and did not join them. This is completely false – a blatant lie. I challenge anyone to show even one instance of the opposition walking out of Parliament and me not joining them. There are CCTV cameras all over Parliament – get the footage out and the truth will come out,” he added. He further denied claims that he refused to sign the impeachment motion against Chief Election Commissioner Janesh Kumar.“The second allegation is that I refused to sign the impeachment motion against the Chief Electoral Commissioner. This is also false. I was not asked by any leader of the party, formally or informally, to sign the motion. In fact, several members of the House of Commons themselves did not sign the motion. So why should the blame be placed solely on me? Moreover, such a motion requires 50 signatures in the House of Commons, a number that is easily met. So why is there noise? ” he said.Talking about the third charge of raising “trivial questions” in Parliament, Chadha said: “The third charge is that I felt intimidated and therefore asked trivial questions. Let me clarify – I did not go to Parliament to shout, create chaos or break the microphone. I went there to raise public issues. I spoke about GST, income tax, water in Punjab, air pollution in Delhi, conditions in government schools, strengthening of public healthcare and issues faced by Indian Railways passengers.” I even brought up issues like menstrual health and unemployment and inflation that people often don’t want to discuss. You can look at my four years of parliamentary record – I was there to create impact, not destruction. “AAP informed the Rajya Sabha Secretariat on Thursday that Ashok Kumar Mittal has been appointed as the new deputy leader of the Upper House, replacing Raghav Chadha.Chadha has been a member of Parliament since April 2022 and is often in the spotlight for raising key issues in Parliament. Recently, he has expressed concern over the practice of “sarpanch pati” or “panchayat pati”, in which women elected to reserve seats in local bodies often remain nominal representatives while real power is exercised by male family members. He urged the government to take steps to ensure that women elected to Panchayati Raj institutions can exercise real power, in line with the intent of the 73rd Amendment to the Constitution.
