New Delhi: Supreme Court on Monday refused to intervene madras high courtIt was decided to ban animal sacrifices and give limited rights to Muslim devotees to pray at Tirupalankundram hill in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. A bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and PB Varale said the order passed on October 10 was balanced and declined to entertain the appeal against the order. The HC held that any animal sacrifice and cooking, carrying or serving of any non-vegetarian food will not be allowed in Nellithoppu district until the competent civil court rules on the practice of animal sacrifice in Thiruparankundram Hillock. “In fact, the Devasthanam Temple has been declared the absolute owner of the traditional trail leading to Nellithoppu area. The Muslims have the right to use the said pathway only. In this case, they cannot use the said pathway for any other purpose except to reach Nellithoppu area,” the HC said. Upholding the order, the Supreme Court said: “This appears to be a very balanced order… We do not intend to interfere with the order. Without expressing any opinion as to the rights of the parties, the impugned order is upheld.”
