The selection of a pilot-turned-management heavyweight with CEO experience signals that he will be equally focused on operations and expansion to ensure that what happened in December is not repeated. Walsh, also known as Willie, will complete his tenure with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) on July 31, 2026, and is expected to join IndiGo on August 3.Rahul Bhatia sent an email to employees on Tuesday informing them of Will’s appointment as CEO, signing it “kuchh hee dino kaa mehmaan.” The email announcing Elbers’ resignation sent on March 10 was signed “main hoon na.”On his appointment, Bhatia said, “I am delighted to welcome Willy to IndiGo as we enter a new phase of transformation and growth. He is an iconic and proven aviation industry leader with a rare combination of global perspective, operational expertise in building strong customer-centric airlines, deep industry experience and values-driven leadership, making him ideally suited to lead IndiGo at this critical growth point.”““I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead IndiGo. The aviation industry is evolving rapidly and IndiGo is well-positioned to be at the forefront of this change.
