Tamil Nadu: TVK chief Vijay punished for violating election rules a day after going to polls

New Delhi: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay was booked on Tuesday for violating the election conduct rules of Peravallur police station.According to the complaint lodged by Squadron Officer Kumar, Vijay allegedly violated the Model Code of Conduct by using around 30 loudspeakers during a public gathering, which attracted over 5,000 people and caused inconvenience to the public.The complaint also states that the rally resulted in obstruction of public access and reportedly impeded the movement of ambulances, raising public safety concerns.Based on the complaint, the Peravalur police have registered a case under five sections, including charges related to public nuisance, unlawful assembly and obstructing public roads. According to ANI, the case involves Vijay and nearly 5,000 party workers. Vijay recently announced that he will contest from Perampur and Trichy East constituencies.Tamil Nadu is scheduled to go to single-phase polls on April 23 and counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.
