Duong died after suffering septic shock, his death confirmed by a close family friend who was present during his final moments. He died in a hospital in Santa Monica, California, surrounded by loved ones.

Alex Duong’s Cause of Death and Health Battle

TMZ reports that Duong was diagnosed last year with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer eye cancerafter experiencing a persistent headache behind my eyes.

After a biopsy showed the tumor was particularly aggressive, Alex underwent several rounds of treatment and wore an eye patch. The condition has reportedly led to serious complications. Includes vision loss in one eye and intensive treatment cycles.

Hilarie Steele, a friend of Duong and his family, set up a GoFundMe to “help Alex regain his sight.”

“He recently underwent major eye surgery to remove a malignant growth behind his eye, but instead of having clear answers, he and his family are encountering uncertainty,” the GoFundMe page reads.

Despite receiving medical care, his health deteriorated in recent days, eventually leading to septic shock. Duong died at 11 a.m. Friday, March 27, in Santa Monica, California.

Duong has built a reputation in the entertainment industry through stand-up comedy and television roles, including starring in the hit police drama blue blood.

Alex Duong also appeared on Jeff Ross Presents Roast Battle, which included a televised roast battle performance, which helped boost his profile on the stand-up comedy circuit.

Colleagues and comedians, including Ronny Chieng and Atsuko Okatsuka, rallied around Duong during his illness, and charity shows such as “The Alex Duong Eye Cancer Comedy Show” at Largo in Los Angeles were held last year to support him and his family.

After news of his death broke, social media was flooded with tributes. The Comedy & Magic Club posted on Instagram: “RIP Alex Duong. Your humor, strength and kindness made the world a brighter place. Thank you for the laughter and love.”
