Senior officials from the Punjab Police Headquarters have visited different police districts to lead the operation.
Sharing details of the first day of the operation, Special Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla said that as part of the operation, over 2,000 police teams comprising around 12,000 personnel conducted raids at locations in Punjab related to wanted criminals.
He said as many as 1,895 people were rounded up, of which 1,250 were arrested, including 40 declared criminals and 298 were placed in preventive detention.
In addition to this, the police verified 666 people and released them after questioning.
He said people can anonymously report information related to wanted criminals and gangs through the anti-gang hotline 93946-93946 and share tips on crimes and criminal activities.
Earlier on January 20, Punjab Police launched Operation Praha, a state-wide operation to disrupt the entire organized crime ecosystem.
Meanwhile, the police on Monday arrested 72 drug smugglers and seized 26.4 kilograms of heroin, 772 narcotic tablets/capsules and drug money of Rs 12.17 lakh from their possession in the 345th consecutive day of crackdown on ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ drugs.
So far, the total number of drug smugglers caught in just 345 days has reached 48,331.
