New Delhi: The Congress on Thursday hit out at the Modi government after it mentioned Pakistan, saying the rhetoric and failed diplomacy of the “self-styled Vishwa Guru” had turned a “broken country into a middleman state”.Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh said the EAM was doing its best to cover up India’s “extreme embarrassment” and the setback to India’s regional diplomacy caused by Pakistan’s emergence as a mediator in negotiations to end the West Asian war.
He called Pakistan’s perceived role as a “peacemaker” “atrocious” despite its well-known role in state-sponsored terrorism and hosting Osama bin Laden, as well as its role in nuclear proliferation. “…the fact remains that a colossal failure in our diplomacy, outreach and narrative management has turned a broken country into a state of middlemen,” Ramesh said.
