Today, the format is defined by aggression and fearlessness,” former India opener WV Raman told TOI.This can easily be attributed to bigger bats, flatter pitches and shorter boundaries. The rise of T20 specialists will only reinforce this trend,” Raman believes.The bowlers, meanwhile, operate under stifling restrictions: two fielders outside the 30-yard circle, hard balls and batsmen who no longer respect reputations.Swing, once an ally, has become fleeting and gone in the blink of an eye. If your length is off by a few millimeters, the ball will disappear into the stands.“Bowlers have to adapt and think smarter. Modern cricket requires more than just skill. It requires awareness, change and tactical intelligence. However, even the brightest bowlers need conditions for these skills to work,” observed Raman.The purpose of this is to compress the tension of the game. T20 games used to unfold in layers: a steady start, a squeeze in the middle and a burst at the death. Now, the first act threatens to swallow up the rest. When a team reaches 80 or 90 points in six rounds, the middle rounds become sustainment.With such sustained and crazy frontline batting, can they achieve 300 points in this IPL?Raman believes that given the evolution of scoring trends, such a milestone seems achievable if conditions align.“I remember there was an SRH match in 2024 when they were close (287) but I thought it was possible,” Raman added.Captains and coaches are recalibrating their strategies accordingly. There is a growing tendency to recruit the best bowlers early and gamble early in the hope of breaking the momentum. But even that comes with risks: Burn your trump card too early and the back end will be exposed. Block them and you may have nothing to control. This is a strategic vice.Then comes the psychological shift. The fiery Powerplay didn’t just increase the number of runs; It distorts perception.
