2026 parliamentary election results
Pingla of Paschim Medinipur district is currently represented in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly by Ajit Maity of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC). In the 2021 elections, he polled 1,12,435 votes, defeating the BJP’s Antara Bhattacharya who polled 1,05,779 votes, giving him a lead of 6,656 votes. Key issues in this predominantly rural agricultural constituency include dependence on rice and potato cultivation, need for assured irrigation and better farm gate prices for small and marginal growers. Road connectivity between villages and markets, upgrading public schools and health centres, and controlling seasonal migrant workers are recurring issues in district-level livelihood assessments. Pingla is a general (non-reserved) seat in the Ghatal Lok Sabha constituency, represented by TMC MP Deepak Adhikari (Dev), who retained the Assembly seat in 2024 with a margin of over 1.80 lakh votes, strengthening the Trinamool’s organizational advantage in this belt. Historically a stronghold of Prabodh Chandra, the district’s decisive shift to the TMC from 2016 marked a major change in centre-left rural politics here.
