New Delhi: The government on Saturday appointed academics Joram Aniya and R Balasubramaniam as new members Niti Aayog As part of a think tank revamp.Prime Minister Narendra Modi An article in X congratulated both scholars. “Their extensive experience and deep understanding of a variety of issues will greatly enhance policy development. I believe their contributions will help drive innovation and growth across industries. I wish them a productive and influential tenure ahead. ” he added.Aniya’s joining Niti Aayog marks an important step as it brings in a prominent intellectual voice from Arunachal Pradesh. She is currently an associate professor and member of the Arunachal Pradesh Private Education Regulatory Commission and has extensive experience in teaching, research and public policy engagement, officials said.They added that she had made significant contributions to literature, culture and indigenous knowledge systems by being the first woman from the Nishi community and the first woman from the state to obtain a PhD in Hindi. She has written and edited many books on Nisi literature and culture as well as numerous research publications.Balasubramaniam, who teaches at Cornell University, is a human resources member of the capacity-building committee set up by the government.Balasubramaniam is a qualified medical doctor and the founder of the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement and Grassroots Research and Advocacy Movement. Balasubramaniam holds a master’s degree in public administration from the Harvard Kennedy School.Late last month, the government appointed former chief economic adviser Ashok Lahiri as the new deputy chairman of Niti Aayog. IISER, Bhopal director Gobardhan Das, economist KV Raju, AIIMS director M Srinivas and science and technology minister Abhay Karandikar were appointed as the new members. Rajiv Gauba will also continue as a full-time member.Lahiri is expected to take over next week, and with the new members in place, the think tank is expected to provide critical input during the challenges posed by conflicts in West Asia.
