13 people were injured after an employee shuttle bus crashed into a concrete barrier at Newark Liberty International Airport early Monday, authorities said. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital and were reported to have non-life-threatening injuries. The accident took place around 3 am on the Terminal B Departures Level 3 roadway, according to the Port Authority Police Department. A Port Authority spokesperson said the vehicle involved was an employee shuttle bus.Video and photographs from the scene showed the bus with significant damage to its front, including a smashed windshield and damaged passenger door. The vehicle appeared to have struck a concrete wall while exiting the terminal, CBS News reported.Emergency crews responded to the scene and transported 13 people to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities said the injuries were not life-threatening, according to the New York Post.

Terminal B roadway temporarily closed

The Level 3 roadway was shut as police and airport crews investigated the crash and cleared debris. The roadway later reopened around 9:30 am, CBS News reported.Passengers using Terminal B were advised to follow airport directions and use the designated lower-level departure area while the roadway was closed.

No airport-wide shutdown

The crash did not result in a complete shutdown of Newark Liberty International Airport. Flight operations continued, although passengers using Terminal B could face localised traffic and access disruptions. The cause of the crash was not immediately clear and remained under investigation.

Passengers advised to check flight status

Travellers flying from Newark were advised to check directly with their airlines for the latest information on departures, delays or cancellations before heading to the airport.Passengers using Terminal B may also want to allow extra time for drop-offs because of possible congestion around the terminal following the crash.
