NEW DELHI: Around 12 lakh households across 11 states and Union Territories have so far self-enumerated during the House Registration Operation (HLO) phase of Census 2027. More than half of these households had availed themselves of the self-counting facility in the past four to five days.As the 15-day self-enumeration window ends on Wednesday in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Goa, Karnataka, Odisha, NDMC and cantonment areas in Delhi National Capital Territory, Mizoram, Sikkim and Lakshadweep, census field operations, including door-to-door visits by enumerators, will begin in these eight states/Union Territories on Thursday. The fieldwork will last for one month until May 15th. Given that the 1.2 million households enumerated so far represent only a tiny proportion of the eight states’ total population, enumerator visits are critical to obtaining complete and accurate data on housing conditions and household facilities. A Home Office spokesperson said the HLO phase provides an important foundation for evidence-based planning and the development of welfare and development plans. The self-census window is open till April 19 in Gujarat, Dadra, Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and till April 24 in Uttarakhand. The campaign will begin in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, MP and Chhattisgarh on Monday and in Bihar on Friday.
