‘You thought no one noticed’: Indian YouTuber’s viral post on how to get free breakfast elicits reaction from NRIs; ‘Hence, MAGAs filled with hate’

An Indian YouTuber took to social media to share tips on how to get free breakfast from a select group of hotels, leaving NRIs embarrassed as the post went viral. Some NRIs commented that this is why the “MAGA” hatred against Indians has reached this stage now because Indians shamelessly manipulate the system to get small things like free breakfast. However, Siddharth Bhimani’s viral post didn’t include any tricks. The YouTuber simply said that requests for free breakfast can be made on the hotel group’s app a day in advance. The man explained that he got free breakfast across India with his Gold Card status, which did not guarantee free breakfast, but he jumped at the chance to use his messaging skills, even in places like Bali and Abu Dhabi. “Stop. Stop. Use your own money to buy something on the corner or walk to breakfast. You are the Indians I call “Bikari Indians”. You game the system and brag about it. You thought no one noticed, but actually they all did. We all suffer,” said Rakesh Nayak, an Indian-American and foreign direct investment investor. Nayak wrote: “I would write a book on how they did this in America and are now getting hate from MAGA because of it. They ran off the runway with this idea and are now trying to play the victim card.” NRI professor Gaurav Sabnis narrates his experience of getting “protips” when he moved to the United States. “When I moved to the US, I was shocked at how many ‘tips’ Desis gave me for exactly how you game the system. From taking advantage of the generous return policy. To smuggling ghee/mangoes. To raiding Goodwill when you’re sitting on a $150,000 job. Taking the grocery cart home. Etc. Disgusting,” Sabnis wrote.

“Never cared about rights”

Bhimani responded to the criticism from the NRI community and said his “Free Breakfast” post was never about freeloading or entitlement. “This is simply using the ‘message feature’ that is activated in the Marriott app 1 day before check-in to politely request an offer – which many travelers already do. It’s intended to help people who may not know this or be too embarrassed to ask at the front desk,” he said.
