The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reportedly on scene. The shooting reportedly occurred near the I-575 north exit ramp at Towne Lake Parkway, known as Exit 8. The GBI noted that Woodstock police have asked them to investigate the matter, which is normal if an officer is involved in a shooting.

At this time, it is unclear whether anyone was injured in the shooting. No suspicious details have been released yet.

When will Interstate 575 open?

Interstate 575 is now partially open after being closed for hours due to reports of a shooting. However, that stretch is not yet fully open, so drivers are urged to exit on Highway 92 until Interstate 575 reopens, or continue north to Ridgewalk Parkway.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office reportedly said the Interstate 575 north off-ramp to Towne Lake Parkway is closed and may remain that way “for an extended period of time.” The Georgia Department of Transportation also noted that exits were closed due to the shooting.

Woodstock shooting report raises concerns

News of the Woodstock shooting triggered a range of reactions. Many people quickly expressed concern. “I wish you had an RV right now. There are shootings everywhere,” one person wrote. Another added: “Stay safe out there! This world is gone.”

Another said: “This is a mile from my house. Stay safe out there!”. A source also detailed how the shooting occurred near their travel route, writing: “That was the exit my family took home and we saw police on the exit ramp, praying that everyone involved would keep us updated on the situation, thank you.”
